– Há uma doutrina que deveria converter os mais incrédulos, por seu encanto e por sua doçura: a dos anjos da guarda. Pensar que tendes sempre ao vosso lado seres que vos são superiores, que estão sempre ali para vos aconselhar, vos sustentar, vos ajudar a escalar a montanha escarpada do bem, que são amigos mais firmes e mais devotados que as mais íntimas ligações que se possam contrair na Terra, não é essa uma idéia bastante consoladora? Esses seres ali estão por ordem de Deus, que os colocou ao vosso lado, ali estão por seu amor, e cumprem junto a vós todos uma bela mas penosa missão. Sim, onde quer que estiverdes, vosso anjo estará convosco: nos cárceres, nos hospitais, nos antros do vício, na solidão, nada vos separa desse amigo que não podeis ver, mas do qual vossa alma recebe os mais doces impulsos e ouve os mais sábios conselhos. Ah, por que não conheceis melhor esta verdade? Quantas vezes ela vos ajudaria nos momentos de crise, quantas vezes ela vos salvaria dos maus Espíritos! Mas, no dia decisivo, este anjo de bondade terá muitas vezes de vos dizer: “Não te avisei disso? E não o fizeste! Não te mostrei o abismo? E nele te precipitaste! Não fiz soar na tua consciência a voz da verdade, e não seguiste os conselhos da mentira?” Ah, interpelai vossos anjos da guarda, estabelecei entre vós e eles essa tema intimidade que reina entre os melhores amigos! Não penseis em lhes ocultar nada, pois eles são os olhos de Deus e não os podeis enganar! Considerai o futuro, procurai avançar.nesta vida, e vossas provas serão mais curtas, vossas existências mais felizes. Vamos, homens, coragem! Afastai para longe de vós, de uma vez por todas, preconceitos e segundas intenções! Entrai na nova vida que se abre diante de vós, marchai, marchai! Tendes guias. segui-os: a meta não vos pode faltar porque essa meta é o próprio Deus. Aos que pensassem ser impossível a Espíritos verdadeiramente elevados se restringirem a uma tarefa tão laboriosa, e de todos os instantes, diremos que influenciamos as vossas almas embora estando a milhões de léguas de distância: para nós, o espaço não existe, e mesmo vivendo em outro mundo, nossos Espíritos conservam sua ligação convosco. Gozamos de faculdades que não podeis compreender, mas estai certos de que Deus não nos impôs uma tarefa acima de nossas forças, nem vos abandonou sozinhos sobre a Terra, sem amigos e sem amparo. Cada anjo da guarda tem o seu protegido e vela por ele, como um pai vela pelo filho. Sente-se feliz quando o vê no bom caminho, chora quando os seus conselhos são desprezados. Não temais fatigar-nos com as vossas perguntas, permanecei, pelo contrário, sempre em contato conosco: sereis então mais fortes e mais felizes. São essas comunicações de cada homem com o seu Espírito familiar que fazem médiuns a todos os homens, médiuns hoje ignorados, mas que mais tarde se manifestarão, derramando-se como um oceano sem bordas, para fazer refluir a incredulidade e a ignorância. Homens instruídos, instrui, homens de talento, educai os vossos irmãos. Não sabeis que obra assim realizais: é a do Cristo, a que Deus vos impõe. Por que Deus vos concedeu a inteligência e a ciência, se não para as repartides com vossos irmãos, para os adiantar na senda da aventura e da eterna bem-aventurança?
– São Luís, Santo Agostinho. A doutrina dos anjos da guarda velando pelos protegidos, apesar da distância que separa os mundos, nada tem que deva surpreender, pelo contrário, é grande e sublime. Não vemos sobre a Terra um pai velar pelo filho, ainda que esteja distante, e ajudá-lo com seus conselhos através da correspondência? Que haveria de admirar em que os Espíritos possam guiar, de um mundo ao outro, os que tornaram sob a sua proteção, pois se, para eles, a distância que separa os mundos é menor que a que divide os continentes, na Terra? Não dispõem eles do fluido universal, que liga todos os mundos e os torna solidários, veículo imenso da transmissão do pensamento, como o ar é para nós o veículo da transmissão do som?
